Lyazzat DOSMAMBETOVA was illegally sentenced to 2.5 years of restriction of liberty and a five-year ban on social and political activities and the use of social media.
On 15 September 2021, a politically motivated criminal case under Article 405 Part 1 and Part 2 (“organization and participation in an extremist organization”) against civil activist and mother of four children Lyazzat DOSMAMBETOVA was held in the Enbekshy District Court. Lyazzat DOSMAMBETOVA was illegally sentenced to 2.5 years of restriction of liberty and a five-year ban on social and political activities and the use of social media. She was also ordered to pay a mandatory fee of 58,340 tenge ($137) to the “Crime Victims Compensation Fund” and 100 hours of community service. Judge: SHINALIYEVA Svetlana Ubaidayevna. Prosecutor: MAKASHOV Dauletali Sarsenbayevich. ⠀ Lyazzat DOSMAMBETOVA is being prosecuted for:
Participation in live broadcast with an opposition politician Mukhtar ABLYAZOV;
Calling for a change of power and the establishment of a parliamentary republic;
Criticism of the government;
A call to submit notifications to hold a peaceful assembly on 31 October 2020 in Shymkent;
a call to participate in peaceful protests. ⠀ In its resolution on the human rights situation in Kazakhstan of 11 February 2021, the EP calls on the Kazakhstani authorities to stop all politically motivated prosecutions and release all political prisoners immediately and unconditionally. ⠀ The European Parliament condemned the Kazakhstani authorities’ abuse of anti-extremism legislation to persecute supporters of the peaceful opposition movements DCK and “Koshe Partiyasy”. ⠀ We call on the US, the EU, the UK and Canada to impose personal sanctions on: the head of the NSC, Karim MASSIMOV; the General Prosecutor, Gizat NURDAULETOV; and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerlan TURGUMBAYEV.
