Preventive political persecution before the memorial ceremony in honour of Zhanbolat AGADIL, a politically killed son of an activist Dulat #AGADIL. Kazakhstani authorities are intensifying political persecution to prevent activists and those concerned from gathering for the memorial ceremony.

On 3 November, three police officers attempted to abduct a civil activist #YUSUPOV Niyazbek outside his house. The police officers threatened to take Niyazbek away by force if he did not voluntarily come with them. The activist flatly refused to go anywhere with the perpetrators as he was feeling very weak and was going to see a doctor for treatment. One of the perpetrators introduced himself as #ADILKHAN Nurzhan.

Seeing Niyazbek YUSUPOV’S grave ill condition, the perpetrators decided not to abduct the activist, having previously talked to someone on the phone. Niyazbek fell seriously ill a month ago and has been receiving treatment, including in-patient treatment, all this time.

When leaving, the police absolutely illegally banned the activist from leaving his house until 6 November. By doing so, the perpetrators flagrantly violated the activist’s constitutional right to freedom of movement and put the health of the activist, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital by appointment, at serious risk.

Niyazbek YUSUPOV calls on members of the European Parliament, the US, the EU and Australian governments to impose personal sanctions on: Nursultan NAZARBAYEV, NSC head Karim MASSIMOV and all those responsible for political repression in Kazakhstan.European Parliament OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe UN Human Rights Council
